Education, prevention and prosecution

The aim is to roll out the app across five federal states in Germany by 2026. Our declared goals are to provide information on the topic of gender-based intimate partner violence, to provide access to the support system for those affected and to make the documentation of experiences of violence safer. Better access to the help system for those affected by means of modern communication technology is an indispensable component of modern prevention and intervention work.

The app is intended to enable those affected by gender-based intimate partner violence to assess their own situation by providing information about different forms of violence. At best, the app helps to gather evidence against the perpetrator, which can be helpful in court. More than 80% of all court proceedings in cases of domestic violence are currently still dropped due to a lack of evidence. We do not want to accept this!

132,966 people affected are 132,966 too many

In 2023, at least 132,966 women [1] were affected by gender-based intimate partner violence in Germany and the numbers are rising steadily [2]. A dark field study from Lower Saxony in 2022 shows that only every 215th crime in the context of domestic violence is reported [3]. Every third woman in Europe is affected by sexualized and physical violence by her (ex-)partner in the course of her life [4]. Groups affected by multiple forms of surpression and discrimination are particularly vulnerable and exposed to an increased risk of violence [5,6].

Implement the Istanbul Convention, pass the Violence Assistance Act!

The federal and state governments must resolutely press ahead with the implementation of the Istanbul Convention. The number of people affected by gender-based intimate partner violence is rising steadily: from 2022 to 2023 alone, the number of cases in the bright field increased by 6.4 percent. This is alarming and requires urgent political action. 79.2 percent of those affected by intimate partner violence were women [7,8]. The Violence Assistance Act announced in the coalition agreement, according to which every woman affected by gender-based and domestic violence and her children are to have a legal right to protection and counseling, must be introduced as soon as possible. Because as the numbers grow, so does the need for support.

Goals and demands

Involving society

Survivors of domestic violence need protection and support. This requires a support system that has sufficient resources to offer help to everyone. And a society in which those affected are not stigmatized and in which their needs are taken seriously. A problem that affects society as a whole can only be solved by everyone working together. We need to look for intersections together, think in an interdisciplinary way, work together to clear up the myths surrounding this form of violence and tackle the root of the problem - patriarchal structures in our society.

Demanding policy

Affected people need real protection after experiencing gender-based violence in a couple. That is why we are calling on politicians to engage in an open debate, pass laws that help those affected and support them on their journey, provide more funding for the entire support system and develop preventative concepts.
